The temples are the gateway to the antiquity of a town. It is not only the devotion of the people but also the abode of the arts and the historical archives. The worship in the temple is meant to highlight the beliefs of the people. These culture continue to grow along the ways. Changes in the way of worship set the stage for the change in society. In the history of the site are buried myths, historical documents and the stories of the people's endeavors. Inscriptions found in temples are the document that clarifies the ambiguity of the inscriptions found in the context of the ambiguity in the historical period or events caused by the distortion of the histories in the books. Therefore, it is the chief duty of the people to preserve the temple as a rare place to preserve it from extinction in time and pass it on to the next generation.

            ஓர் ஊரின் பழமையை எடுத்துரைக்கும் வாயிலாகக் கோயில்கள் திகழ்கிறது. இது மக்களின் பக்தித் திறத்தை மட்டும் விளக்காமல் கலைகளின் இருப்பிடமாகவும் வரலாற்று ஆவணக் காப்பகமாகவும் திகழ்கிறது. கோயிலில் உள்ள வழிபாட்டு முறைகள் மக்களின் நம்பிக்கைகளை எடுத்துக் காட்டுவதாக உள்ளது. இந்த வழிபாட்டு முறைகள் வழிவழியாய்த் தொடா்ந்து வருதாயும் இருக்கிறது.  வழிபாட்டு முறைகளில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றங்கள் அப்பொழுதிய சமுதாய மாற்றத்தை புலப்படுத்துவதாய் அமைகிறது. தல  வரலாற்றில் புராணக்கதைகள், வரலாற்று ஆவணக் கூறுகள் மற்றும் மக்களின் தன் முனைப்புக் கதைகளும் புதைந்து கிடக்கின்றன. புத்தகங்களில் உள்ள வரலாறுகளில் திரிபு ஏற்பட்டடு வரலாற்றுக் காலம் அல்லது நிகழ்வுகளில் ஐயப்பாடு நிலவும் சூழலில் கோயில்களில் கிடைக்கும் கல்வெட்டுகள், செப்பேடுகள் ஐய்யத்தைத் தெளிவுபடுத்தும் ஆவணமாகத் திகழ்கிறது. ஆதலால் காலவெள்ளத்தில் அழியாமல் பாதுகாக்கவேண்டிய அரிய இடமாக கோயிலைப் பாதுகாக்கத்து அதை அடுத்த தலைமுறையினருக்கு கொடுக்க வேண்டியது மக்களின் தலையாய கடமையாக அமைகிறது.
