Abstract

Wikipedia is well-thought-out as the world's largest online encyclopedia. It is one of the projects under Wikimedia that was founded by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger on January 15, 2001. Aforementioned is an open content project, allowing individuals from all around the world to share their knowledge and itself that can be read, edited, and improved by anyone. At this instant, it has provided information in 329 languages apart from being with a total of 56.7 million articles.

Tamil Wikipedia is a part of this global initiative. It contributes by providing articles in the Tamil language, encompassing various subjects. As of September 25, 2003, Tamil Wikipedia has been actively participating in this endeavor. As of October 3, 2023, Tamil Wikipedia boasts 159,229 articles, marking its 62nd position among the largest Wikipedias globally.

Tamil Wikipedia covers diverse topics, including history, geography, science, technology, arts, literature, society, politics, and economics. Specialized pages dedicated to Tamil literature, history, art, culture, and language also exist. The growth of Tamil Wikipedia is attributed to the collaborative efforts of contributors, including students, teachers, and the general public.

To enhance the development of Tamil Wikipedia, various contributors work tirelessly. This includes students, teachers, and individuals from different backgrounds. The Tamil Wikipedia community also collaborates with the Tamil Wikipedia Academy to promote knowledge. Tamil Wikipedia serves as a valuable educational resource, contributing to the growth of the Tamil language.

Prominent linguist N. Deivasundaram emphasizes that the synergy of linguistic knowledge, computer science expertise, and linguistic research can lead to the creation of quality content on Tamil Wikipedia. Recognizing the potential of such knowledge, efforts continue to further develop Wikipedia and its related projects.

In conclusion, this research, along with Python automation, aims to gather comprehensive data and contribute relevant research findings to Wikipedia, thereby facilitating its continual growth and improvement."
