Abstract

            Worship of God is originated from  people's fear. The worship evolved into various religions. Those religions were divided into six categories. Among them, Saivism with Lord Shiva as the primary deity developed as the primary religion.. The hymns in praise of Lord Shiva have been compiled into twelve volmes called Panniru Thirumurai. Devaram written by Thirunavukarasar plays an important role in this. He is one among  the Devara trio (Devara moovar). Periyapuranam narrated by Sekkizhar which explains life of disciples of Lord Shiva , mentions the merits of Thirunavukkarasar and all the Tamil works and religious works he did. Similarly, in the Pulavar Purana which he sang, Dandapani Swami, as one of the 72 poets, mentions all the merits and philanthropy of Thirunavukarasar. Thus, this article is a comparison of the history of Thirunavukarasar as told in both Puranas.

ஆய்வுச் சுருக்கம்

மக்களின் அச்சத்தின் வழியாகத் தோன்றியதுதான் கடவுள் வழிபாடு ஆகும். அக்கடவுள் வழிபாடு பல்வேறு சமயங்களாகத் தோற்றம் பெற்று வளர்ச்சி அடைந்தது. அச்சமயத்தை ஆறுவகையாகப் பிரித்தனர். இதில் சைவசமயம் முதன்மைச் சமயமாக வளர்ச்சி பெற்றது. சைவசமயம் என்பது சிவபெருமானை முதன்மைக் கடவுளாகக் கொண்டு வளர்ந்தது. சிவபெருமானைப் போற்றும் விதமாக அமையும் பாடல்களைப் பன்னிரண்டு திருமுறைகளாகத் தொகுத்துள்ளனர். திருமுறையில் முதல் ஏழு திருமுறைகளும் தேவாரம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன. இதில் திருநாவுக்கரசர் தேவாரமானது முக்கியப்பங்கு கொண்டது. தேவார மூவர்களில் இவர் ஒருவராவார். அடியார்பெருமை கூறும் பெரியபுராணத்தில் சேக்கிழார் பெருமான் திருநாவுக்கரசரின் சிறப்பியல்பினையும் அவர் செய்த தமிழ்ப்பணிகள், சமயப்பணிகள் என அனைத்தையும் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். அதுபோலவே தண்டபாணி சுவாமிகள் தாம் பாடிய புலவர் புராணத்தில் 72 புலவர்களுள் ஒருவராக, திருநாவுக்கரசரைப் பற்றிய சிறப்புகள் மற்றும் அவர் ஆற்றிய தொண்டு என அனைத்தையும் சிறப்பாகக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். அவ்வகையில் இரு புராணங்களிலும் கூறப்படும் திருநாவுக்கரசர் வரலாற்றை ஒப்பீடு செய்யும் விதமாக இக்கட்டுரை அமைகிறது.
