Abstract

The noble characteristics of the Tamils encompass the virtues of love and grace. The literature of the Sangam era, a treasury of the Sangam Tamils, exemplifies Tamil life. The "Purananooru" is a collection of poems extensively discussing external affairs in Sangam literature. Comprising four hundred poems, it glorifies valor and depicts the inherent human virtue found in the minds of people who admire bravery. The fourteen songs in the "Purananooru Aartruppadai" illustrate the inherent nature of our ancestors, who believed that others should receive what they themselves receive. The songs in the "Purananooru" showcase the ancient Tamils who possess innate humane virtues from birth. During the Sangam period, artists like Paanar, Virali, and Pulavar sought out kings to showcase their artistic talent. By singing the praises of the valor and generosity of the kings, they contributed to later knowledge of the kings' history. The artists who entertained the king by singing and praising them, in return, received gifts bestowed by the king. One who is pleased with the gift and the other who is in need are duly guided to the host giving the gift. This research article delves into these details through the songs of the "Purananooru."

            அன்பும் அருளும் தமிழர்களுக்கே உரிய தன்னிகரில்லா பண்புகளாகும். சங்கத் தமிழர்களின் கருவூலமான சங்க கால இலக்கியங்கள், தமிழர்களின் வாழ்வியலை எடுத்துக்காட்டுபவைகள். சங்ககால இலக்கியங்களில், எட்டுத்தொகையில் புறச்செய்திகளைக் கூறும் நூல் நானூறு பாடல்களைக் கொண்ட புறநானூறு ஆகும். வீரத்தைப் போற்றும் புறநானூறு, மக்களின் மனித நேயப் பண்புகளையும் எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறது.  பிறவியிலேயே மனிதம் போற்றியவர்கள் பண்டையத் தமிழர்கள் என்பதைப் புறப்பாடல்கள் நானூறும் புலப்படுத்துகின்றன. பல துறைகளில் பாடல்களைப் பெற்ற புறநானூற்றில், ஆற்றுப்படைத் துறையில் அமைந்த பதினான்கு பாடல்களும் மிகவும் சிறப்பு வாய்ந்தவைகள். காரணம், ஆற்றுப்படுத்துதல் என்பது தமிழர் அடையாளங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். தாம் பெற்ற இன்பம் பெறுக இவ்வையகம் என்னும் கொள்கைப்பிடிப்பைக் கொண்ட நம் முன்னோர்களின் இயல்பை எடுத்துக்காட்டுவனவாக இப்பாடல்கள் அமைந்துள்ளன. சங்க காலத்தில், பாணர், விறலி, புலவர் போன்ற கலைஞர்கள் தம்முடைய கலைத் திறமையைக் காட்டுவதற்காக மன்னர்களை நாடினர். மேலும், மன்னர்களின் வீரத்தையும் கொடைத் தன்மையையும் போற்றிப் பாடி, மன்னர்களின் வரலாற்றைப் பின்னோர் அறிந்துகொள்வதற்குக் காரணமாக அமைந்தனர். மன்னனைப் புகழ்ந்து, பாடி, ஆடி மகிழ்வித்த கலைஞர்கள் அதற்கு ஈடாக, மன்னனால் உவந்து அளிக்கப்பெற்ற பரிசிலைப் பெற்று மகிழ்ந்தனர். பரிசில் பெற்று, இன்புற்ற கலைஞர் ஒருவர், பொருள் தேவையுடைய மற்றவரை, பரிசில் வழங்கும் புரவலரிடம் முறையாக வழிபடுத்தியுள்ளனர். இது ஆற்றுப்படுத்துதல் எனப்பெறும். மக்களைக் காக்கும் மன்னன் அனைவருக்கும் எளியவனாக, தேவையுடையோர்க்கு வழங்கும் தன்மையைப் பெற்றவனாக விளங்கியதையும், தேவையுடையோர், தாம் பெற்றதைப் பிறரும் பெற வேண்டும் என்ற உயரிய பண்புடன் விளங்கியதையும் ஆற்றுப்படைத் துறையில் அமைந்த புறநானூற்றுப் பாடல்கள் வழி, விரிவாகக் காட்டுவதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டு இவ்வாய்வுக் கட்டுரை அமைந்துள்ளது.
