Nowadays, women are educated and working in various powerful positions. Even so, when it comes to housework, it is advised that it is for women. In the name of tradition, women are forced to do housework and exploit them physically and laboriously. While modern women are questioning this, this patriarchal society is again imposing slander on them without identifying them as family women.
The institution of marriage takes care of women in a way that does not interfere in the economy. It is a great challenge for women to go to work after marriage. Their income is still considered secondary. In this, great attention is paid to ensuring that women should not earn more than men.
Women are made into commercial objects in marriage. Although dowry is known as something that sells women, patriarchal society continues to practice it as a culture. Even though Dravidian thinkers like Periyar and Anna have advised that it is wrong to ask for dowry in an environment where education is not possible, it can still be seen that it is practiced among educated people today. Prabanjan, through his stories, reveals that it is normal to ask for dowry from educated and working women, and that even though she is a working woman, men refrain from participating in household chores.
