Abstract

The Wikisource project, otherwise known as the Tamil Wikisource,  is a part of the Wikimedia movement, specifically the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki initiative. Such a project serves as an online library, hosting content arising out of various scholarly books. The aforementioned operates as a collaborative platform, allowing individuals to contribute, edit, and review the content. Contributors are considered independent scholars, and they have the freedom to submit and revise materials according to their preferences. The project emphasizes privacy for contributors and provides them with the autonomy to submit and modify content.

Subsequently, the Tamil Wikisource hosts a total of 2,468 books in the Tamil language, covering diverse topics such as Sangam literature, devotional literature, regional literature, history, science, art, grammar, travel, life history, research, commentary, and military literature. Notably, Sangam literature or ancient Tamil literature performs the function of significant focus, showcasing the literary heritage of the Tamil language. Moreover the subject includes works much like Purananuru and its main source, representing a consequential aspect of Tamil literary history.

However, the availability of information with reference to the sources and origins of the collected data remains limited. There are some questions that arise about the specific sources from which the material was collected, it shows a particular aspect that requires further clarification. Additionally, the project aims to identify and integrate unique literary works that may not be easily accessible elsewhere. The exploration of this diverse collection contributes not only to linguistic research but also to the broader understanding of Tamil culture and heritage. Thus the research, through the Wikisource project, seeks to facilitate the integration of valuable literary works into the Tamil Wikimedia, thereby promoting the preservation and dissemination of Tamil language and culture. Further investigation and documentation of sources would enhance the transparency and credibility of this endeavor.
