There is a lot of talk about the skills of teachers for the 21st century in the age of international technology. Professional development with formal ICT training for teachers also improves school quality due to the dynamic nature of technology. The basic objective of the study is to develop a training program in schools to improve the digital competence of teachers based on quality indicators for connecting ICT to school in Batticaloa area, analysis of training needs for teachers. Accordingly, this study titled “ Concepts of teachers about the contribution of digital skills in improving school quality” examines the strengths, weaknesses and challenges of improving digital skills of teachers in Batticaloa District and designs, implements and evaluates schools' professional development programs to improve the quality of schools and develop digital skills (DS) of teachers. Doing so was done on the basis of offering suggestions and methods for improving the digital competence of teachers. Thus ICT plays a vital role in the effective use of classrooms as a whole and in increasing the quality of the school as it is a key component of effective schooling. The study was subjected to a qualitative approach as a quantitative study. 05 Principals and 02 ICT Subject Advisors/ISA were selected from five schools in Kalkudah education zone in Batticaloa District based on purposive sampling. Also, 150 junior secondary (grades 6-9) teachers, 120 students and 60 parents were selected for the study based on stratified random sampling and systematic random sampling. Questionnaire, interview and documents were used as data collection tools for the study in order to get information from them. Also, data was collected from the teachers through group discussion and all the selected schools were observed. The data obtained through these quantitative and qualitative data were assimilated into the process of classification, interpretation and discussion through appropriate software SPSS method.
