Sangha literature helps a lot to understand the society of that time as literature is often used as a mirror to show the times. Apart from the purpose of pacification of Panan, the living conditions of the people of Thanechar and the special features of the area traveled can be known through this literature. Also, many books mention the ways that people used to travel at that time. This article is to explain the travel elements found in the great classical army which has a unique character in the shape level.

பத்துப்பாட்டு நூல்களில் நான்காவது நூலாக அமைந்தது பெரும்பாணாற்றுப்படை. இரவலனைத் தொண்டைமான் இளந்திரையனிடம்  ஆற்றுப்படுத்துவதாகக் கடியலூர் உருத்திரக்கண்ணனார் பாடியது.   500 அடிகளைக் கொண்டது. பெரிய யாழ்ப்பாணனை ஆற்றுப்படுத்தியதால் பெரும்பாணாற்றுப்படை எனப்படுகிறது. பாணாறு என்றும் சிறப்பிக்கப்படுகிறது. வறுமை நிலையைப் போக்கிக் கொள்வதற்காக பயணம் மேற்கொண்ட பெரும்பாணன், எதிர்ப்பட்ட பாணனை ஆற்றுப்படுத்துகையில் சங்க காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்த மக்களின் வாழ்வியல் செய்திகளோடு, இயற்கை அழகையும்,   ஊர்களின் செழிப்பினையும் செம்மையான முறையில் கண் முன்பு காட்சிகளாகத் தோன்றும் விதமாக அமைந்துள்ளது. இலக்கியங்கள் பெரும்பாலும் காலத்தைக் காட்டும் கண்ணாடியாக விளங்கும் வகையில் சங்க இலக்கியம் அக்காலச் சமூகத்தினை அறிந்துகொள்ள பெரிதும் உதவிபுரிகின்றது. பாணனை ஆற்றுப்படுத்தும் நோக்கம் மட்டுமே இல்லாமல் திணைசார் மக்களின் வாழ்வியல் சூழல்களையும் பயணம் மேற்கொண்ட பகுதியின் சிறப்புகளையும் இவ்விலக்கியத்தின் வழியே அறியமுடிகிறது. மேலும் அக்காலத்தின் பயணத்திற்கென்று மனிதர்கள் பயன்படுத்திய வழிகளையும் ஆற்றுப்படை நூல்கள் எடுத்தியம்புகின்றன. பாணாற்றுப் படையில் தனிப்பெரும் தன்மையினை வடிவ அளவில் கொண்டிருக்கும் பெரும்பாணாற்றுப்படையில் காணப்படும் பயணக்கூறுகளை விளக்குவதாக இக்கட்டுரை அமைகின்றது.
