Abstract

Sangam literature is one of the oldest and most valuable literary traditions in Tamil history. This paper explores the dignity and status of women as portrayed in Sangam texts such as Akananuru, Purananuru, and Kurunthogai. It highlights women's emotional depth, social roles, courage, and intellectual contributions. The study reveals that women in Sangam society held a respectable and influential position. Sangam literature, dating from 300 BCE to 300 CE, reflects the life and culture of ancient Tamils. Women played a vital role in shaping the ethical and emotional fabric of society. Their dignity is reflected through literary depictions of love, patience, courage, and wisdom.
